New global service helps mare owners.
September 2003
Stallion Exchange - an exciting new service for the thoroughbred industry – is
set for global launch on September 15th.
Stallion Exchange is a means for mare owners,
who wish to negotiate a service fee to a particular stallion, to be put directly
in touch with stallion
owners/representatives and to anonymously submit offers for stallion
nominations.
Launching first in Australia, Stallion Exchange will
give local and international breeders the chance to make offers on
stallions now serving there and will
soon provide the same opportunity in New Zealand.
White Horse marketing in the USA is a partner in the venture and will be
working on the launch of Stallion Exchange in North America and Europe, so
the service will be available for stallions in all three continents over
the next year.
Former CEO of Equine Spectrum, Dan Kelliher, has first-hand experience of
how such a system works and is very excited about the global launch: “For
the first time mare owners around the world can access information about
stallions and immediately put in an offer for seasons, whatever the time
of day in the country where the stallions stand.”
Niall Power, managing director of Equine United, through whose website the
service will operate,
emphasizes that Stallion Exchange will be a tremendous help to both mare
owner and stallion owner: “Many people who have brood mares are
hesitant about making a direct approach to stallion farms on service fees.
This way
they can discreetly make an offer and the only face-to-face negotiation is
when you are actually talking about covering times and transport etc.”
“All the sorting out of the actual service fee is done for them
and, until a price is agreed upon, the identity of the owner remains confidential.” As
all negotiations are held in confidence the interests of Stallion owners and
Syndicates are fully protected.
By going to the Stallion Exchange website, mare
owners can check the pedigrees and advertised service fees of hundreds
of stallions and then decide on which
might suit their mares and how much they are prepared to offer for services.
Stallion
owners can be confident that any offer submitted is a serious one, as the
submission of an offer is a contractual commitment, so, if the offer
is accepted, the mare owner is obligated to send his or her mare to that
stallion.
In addition to providing a way for fees to be negotiated as a closed
arrangement between parties, there is also provision for mare owners to obtain
Insurance
and finance, which can assist studs with cash flow and is a further incentive
to be keen on the price of service fees.
“As well as saving considerable time for both parties, the system
is a win/win financially for both as it gives lots of extra exposure for
stallions
at little or no cost plus the prospect for studs of early payment and for broodmare
owners to get a service at the best available price,” adds Power.
“We will also involve a selected list of bloodstock agents, so
that the information is put out to a wide network while at the same time
remaining completely
discreet,” he concludes.
Launch of the service for North America
and Europe is targeted for the October/November timeframe. http://www.stallionexchange.com
